Extensive research including interviews with orthotists, rehabilitation specialists, and clinicians, revealed critical gaps such as precision, efficiency, and accessibility in orthotic casting. These insights shaped OrthoFit’s mission to deliver faster, custom, and inclusive orthotic care.
The research uncovered a systemic gap. While many orthotists exist, only a few possess the expertise to deliver precise, custom casts. With just 14 specialized training programs nationwide, access to high-quality orthotic care remains limited and inconsistent.
Development began with structural explorations of AFO forms, followed by secondary prototyping focused on casting mechanisms and part integration. Final refinements prioritized vertical casting orientation, memory foam compression, and ergonomic features—all validated through testing with orthotists.
OrthoFit design integrates key features to enhance orthotic casting: a resin-activated sock for seamless, crease-free molds; an adjustable protective band with size indicators; memory foam padding for optimal compression; and a transparent back casing for improved visibility. Combined with its ergonomic form and high-precision adjustment knob, OrthoFit ensures quick, accurate, and inclusive custom casts.
